Odd Future was pulled and banned from New Zealand’s Big Day Out venue due to acussations claiming that the band was “homophobic.” This did not stop the group, and instead, they decided to perform a show of their own outside of the festival which they decided to name “Big Gay Out.” With the show, they released a number of different t-shirts mocking the venue.
Calum Benacchie, the man who spoke out about Odd Future being “homophobic” has received many violence threats, as well as many other people that helped ban the group from the venue.
“I’m not homophobic, I just think ‘faggot’ hits and hurts people. It hits. And ‘gay’ just means you’re stupid. I don’t know, we don’t think about it, we’re just kids. We don’t think about that shit.” – Tyler, The Creator
