I tried to narrow it down to my Top 5:

Posted Image
Album: The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
Artist: Brand New
Year: 2006
Genre: Indie

Brand New has been one of my favorite bands for years upon years now, maybe even clocking in as my favorite band ever. The whole band is able to exert such emotion through their songs and this album embodies that. Every song on the album is able to tell such a story, and with their build ups they just make for masterpieces, really. Jesse Lacey's voice is perfect. Degausser is probably my favorite song because, jesus christ (no pun intended), it drops my jaw to the floor every time I hear it. Seeing them live twice was probably the happiest I have been and I sincerely recommend every one should sit down once in their life and listen to this album.

Posted Image
Album: The Lonesome Crowded West
Artist: Modest Mouse
Year: 1997
Genre: Indie

Where do I start with this album? Isaac Brock is a genius, I don't care what anyone says and this album proves it. This was one of the first albums I really, really listened to and it just gave me chills. An album that has such a raw sound yet is able to just grab you by the nuts with such songs as Teeth Like God's Shoeshine and Shit Luck but then still manage to incorporate insanely emotional songs as Cowboy Dan and Bankrupt on Selling. Every song on here I think really shows what Modest Mouse can do, I love almost all of their albums even though the last couple were somewhat disappointing, but this album is unfuckablewith.

Album: Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever
Artist: Explosions In the Sky
Year: 2001
Genre: Post-Rock

Explosions In the Sky are probably one of the most popular bands in the "Post-Rock" (god I hate this name) genre. I feel like anyone who fucks around with indie music has had to of heard Your Hand In Mine, now don't get me wrong - this song is fucking beautiful, but there's so much more to Explosions.. This album has two of my all-time favorite Post-Rock songs out there, and both of them are the start to each side (A side / B side on a record) - Have You Passed Through This Night? and Greet Death. Holy fuck, when I first heard these songs I didn't even want to bother picking up my jaw off of the floor because I was just too awe-struck by everything about these songs. Greet Death with the heavy build-up riff that's so simple but everything about it is literally perfect, and Have You Passed Through This Night? with it's sample from the film,The Thin Red Line(which I've never seen) that has an absolutely amazing dialogue, and then the build-up.. oh man the build-up. Seriously, everyone just go buy this album or something, solely for these songs.

Posted Image
Album: In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Artist: Neutral Milk Hotel
Year: 1998
Genre: Indie/Folk

I feel like this a standard in anyone who's been called a hipster in their lifetime. But it's for a good reason, Jeff Mangum's lyricism is genius border-lining on insanity. If anyone else chose to dedicate an album to Anne Frank it probably would've came off as.. not right, it just wouldn't work. But Neutral Milk Hotel is just brilliant in every way. Oh Comely is a goddamn 8 minute masterpiece that I still am having trouble to understand, at all - but everything about is just so beyond pleasing to the ears. The guitar, horns, singing saw, every aspect of instruments used on this album was done so tastefully and well that you have to respect the album.

Posted Image
Album: The Front Bottoms aka Slow Dancing to Soft Rock + Grip 'n' Tie
Artist: The Front Bottoms
Year: 2011
Genre: Pop-Punk

I really had a sort of hard time trying to figure out what to put as number five on this list, but I feel like this was necessary. I've only been listening to The Front Bottoms this year, but no other band has managed to impact me musically in the past few years like my top four has except for these guys. With most of the time very blunt lyricism they're able to do it in such a manner that any teenager that listens to them has to enjoy it to some extent. With only two members (excluding when they play live) it's awesome to hear a duet create such feel-good music but at the same time have it be smart, cool and relate-able. Legit Tattoo Gun has some of the best lyrics I've ever heard and the composition of the song is really so simple but it sounds absolutely fantastic. God, I have so much respect for these guys.

One of many favorites:
Posted Image

Artist: Björk
Album: Vespertine
Genre: Pop/Electronica
Year: 2001

Why: I can listen to this album over and over again for hours (and have). It's so wintery and dreamy, yet is not just beautiful in the winter, it's beautiful all year round. Her voice is so soothing in some and so powerful in demanding in other parts. I love her music in general but at the moment and when I REALLY think about it: this so far is my favorite of hers. It wasn't the first I heard from her (I first heard Debut, which is also good) but it was the one that brought me the most wonderful views on things (not just the music either, that cover is so gorgeous to me). Also a lot of my favorites songs of hers come from this: It's Not Up To You, Hidden Place, Cocoon, Pagan Poetry, Heirloom and Unison specifically which the damn song when live brought me to tears once. Speaking of live, Vespertine's Live album is just as beautiful and some of the live ones are better than the studio albums (Heirloom and It's Not Up To You). I just love this, and Björk is such a great artist.

The runner ups are also Björk albums:

Selmasongs - Wasn't my favorite cause even though it's a wonderful soundtrack (my favorite track of hers of all time New World is on it, and my signature for this site has lines from it... it's so sad... I cried... multiple times and still do), some of the movie versions were better.

Medúlla - Eh, it has some favorites of mine, but it also has some I like to skip, and I rarely skip on Vespertine tracks.

I got three, couldn't decide
BASTARD - Tyler the creator (2009)
Favorite Track: AssMilk
Why? This album made a big impact on me, can't describe it better. Every track is great, not a single one that i can't enjoy. Masterpiece.

ILLMATIC - Nas (1994)
Favorite Track: Halftime
Why? Probably the first rap album i heard, my dad had it on cd. Even though there's only 10 tracks every one is crazy good. This is probably the GOAT.

RADICAL - Odd Future (2010)
Favorite Track: Orange Juice
Say what you will, i say a great album is one where you love every track and i loved every track on this. The only one i tend to skip is alright by Hodgy, idk why though.

Album : Meddle
Artist : Pink Floyd
Genre: Progressive Rock
Year: 1971

After I listened to Dark Side of The Moon, I decided to listen to more of this amazing band. This was one of the first I listened to, and it is fucking amazing. One Of These Days, Pillow of Winds, Echoes, San Tropez, Fearless, Seamus, all very great songs that need to be heard.

Album: The Infamous
Artist: Mobb Deep
Year: 1995
Genre: Hip Hop

Why? I was raised on this album, it was probably one of, if not, the first doses of hip hop I ever got in life. Every song on this album is just excellent, whether it be the gloomy piano or the bip bap snare the instrumentals were all great. The subject matter of the lyrics are some of my favorite, I felt a bond with the bars Havoc and P were spitting. All the songs are classics, and I enjoy every single one. My favorite has got to be Survival Of The Fittest, always connected to that song. The music video was crazy too, seeing Nas with Mobb Deep was awesome, because coming up I was always a huge fan of Nas as well. The Infamous defined Hip Hop in general, definitely one of the best albums ever released, and will always be one of my favorite albums of all time, if not my favorite.

Album: The Private Press
Artist: DJ Shadow
Year: 2002
Genre: Electronica/Trip Hop

When this album first came out, I was 12 and my mom had just bought it from Tower Records and had me listen to the whole album with her over at my grandfather's house. That was the first time I had ever heard any type of experimental music and it blew my mind. From that day on, I can still say that DJ Shadow is my favorite musician and that this my favorite album of all time, because it's also one of those albums that you can zone out and listen to the entire album from start to finish and feel like you just went on a cerebral journey. So 10/10

Album: Smile

Artist: the Beach Boys

Year: 1967

Genre: Baroque pop

Probably would've blown Sgt. Pepper's out of the water, had it actually been released when it was supposed to. But instead, Brian Wilson ate acid like they it was popcorn and locked himself in a bedroom for two years. Crazy vocal harmonies. Inventive production. Even crazier instrumentals. Love it!

midnight marauders.jpg

Album: Midnight Marauders

Artist: A Tribe Called Quest

Year: 1993

Genre: Hip Hop

Never gets old. Still listen to it at least once a week. First album I ever bought.

Artist: its on the cover

Genre: Rap

Year: 2000

Why: Literally every song on here is good. I've listened to this all the way through a good 200 times.

But, if I had to choose another,

Artist: on cover

Genre: Rap/Hip-Hop

Year: 2012

Why: this is the best rap album that's come out in the last 6-7 years, and it has good mainstream appeal, features and beats while having a good underground feel to it, and the fact that Kendrick is a phenomenal rapper just helps it even more. Story is dope too.

At the moment, Shining's Livets Ändhållplats. Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory had a huge impact on my life, as did Slayer's Reign in Blood.

There's way too many to choose but I'll narrow it down to like 5

#5: Jay Z - The Black Album
I have no idea why really but this shit was just so damn good to me

#4: Killer Mike - PL3DGE
Killer Mike kills everything on this album and should be looked at as a piece of hip hop history

#3: Kanye West - Graduation
It's Kanye. Need I say more?

#2: UGK - Underground Kingz
Pimp C's final release and by far UGK's best work. One of the best albums to ever come out of the south

#1 Kanye West - College Dropout
By far my favorite album of all time. Huge part of my middle school days. Listened to this every day back then. He showed how much of a genius he was so early in his career. I honestly don't think there will be another hip hop release that will too how good this album is for at least 5 years

So, my favorite 5 looks like this (no order):

Channel Orange (Frank Ocean)

Madvillainy (Madvillain)

Kid A (Radiohead)

Cosmogramma (Flying Lotus)

Baduizm (Erykah Badu)

Omissions: Need to listen to WOLF longer, but its on its way there to replace Baduizm. When I was younger I loved the shit out of Kanye West and Eminem, I thought they could do no wrong. I mean as for Eminem Recovery is garbage, but most of the old stuff does nothing for me. There is something about Kanye's music that makes me say, yeah it's tight, but why is this guy so hyped? Weird how musical taste changes.
