This Week's Album:
Acid Rap by Chance the Rapper
This week's album is Chance the Rapper's latest mixtape Acid Rap, which came out with huge hype around it. Is the hype worthy of the mixtape? Let's find it.
I really want to like this. I really do. There's a lot of good things about it. The production is pretty top notch, most of the features are really good, but there's something about Chance that doesn't full on click with me. He has a great flow, and his lyrics are pretty good but that voice... oh that voice, I can't stand it at certain points on the tape. Usually I'm able to look past these things, like Danny Brown for instance, but not for Chance. I think this is due to the fact that Danny Brown has a lot of personality and Chance well... there's signs of that in Acid Rap but it's kind of murky. While I really dug most of the first half, the second half falls off at points but towards the end it comes back on track. While there's tons to like on this mixtape, it didn't fit with me as well as others did. So overall, this album gets a 6.5/10, a few good tracks, but Chance as a rapper doesn't appeal to me.
THINGS I LIKED: The production and most of the features (except for Noname Gypsy and kind of Ab-Soul, to an extent) were all really good.
THINGS I HATED: I'm not a fan of Chance's voice and especially his adlibs, fuck those adlibs, the weird tone shifts, oh and "let me put my mouth where you potty boo."
STAND OUT SONGS: Pusha Man, Cocoa Butter Kisses, Everybody's Something, NaNa, Acid Rain, and Everything's Good
OVERALL SCORE: 6.5/10
