Wow...and yet again the fucking President interjects on this issue, and in a way that essentially contradicts the jury's decision. Holy shit.
Every time I see a riot photo it just pisses me off. In addition to riots inconveniencing/harming normal people 10x more than law enforcement (i.e. blocking highways and destroying private property), all I can think when I look at those crowds is, "I'm willing to bet a giant chunk of these people don't vote." I think the stats are that between 18 and 24, only like 40% of those people vote. That might be a weird direction to take my mind. I guess I just go to alternatives to stupid shit like rioting to make people feel like they're actually doing something.
Meanwhile, can anybody name even one victim of the Boston bombing off the top of their head? How many 10-year-olds got killed in Chicago this weekend? Gotta love that national news cycle. Piss people off enough and maybe you can do coverage of riots for a week!
Okay, if you're talking about the obscure right wing article that's making it's rounds stating that Obama is making this a federal case, then I have to say that is a ridiculous way to get your information. That article had no sources and happily claimed in the article itself that it was biased and right wing. Also I can find no other articles to back up this story, the only other articles are stating that civil rights groups are requesting this to be made into a federal case. Shame on you Grace. You didn't even post said article anyway, which is bad form.
Okay, but voting is a pretty pedestrian and in western democracy, useless, way to do anything. At least rioting proves a point. As for inconveniencing 'normal' people, well 'normal' people are middle class Anglo-Saxon males, so I don't see your point. In a country where minorities are oppressed every day, inconeniencing normal people is one way of getting your point across when all other forms have been used. In fact you could say that the POINT of striking and rioting is to inconvenience 'normal' people as much as possible under the hope that said people will pay more attention to the case. Whether this actually happens or not is debatable however.
You're right, we should get back to being scared of those darn brownskins in overthereland! They're the real problem, not the crumbling of western society...
