  1. Huey

This is sounds like clown music. It has the vibe of the original 'Earl' album he did and some of the immediacy of the beats on that album too. Doris seemed all over the place, hard to listen to in one sitting and lacked atmosphere.

The outro of this beat sounds like a child playing around on programs, but it's charming because of that rather than annoying.

  1. Mantra

This is exactly the kind of music I think he should be making – hard and a lot of assonance, and sure he's not really 'saying' anything but the flow has an intensity to it.

  1. Faucet

More of a comedown track.

  1. Grief

Insular depressing stuff. I wonder what this Earl guy is trying to do with his music here. Doris was an ambitious album and this one he seems trying to return to the original intensity that made OF big. It'll be interesting to see if Tyler tries to go back to that as well. I feel that both Doris and Wolf - while selling well and being received reasonably by critics - didn't really make the same impact as the initial lo-fi hard hitting sound they came up with.

'Grief' is a good song but a downer without really going into enough details, and lines like 'talk into the shadows and we can talk addiction' are frustrating. If he's dealing with addiction and references it he ought do more than name check it , as it almost seems like he's using darkness as a posture here.

  1. Off Top

By far the best beat on the album so it's a shame this didn't go on longer. The soul samples remind of me 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly'. Great track, just should have been longer.

  1. Grown Ups

Kind of a plodding track.

  1. AM/Radio

Have high hopes with this one. Probably the best beat on the album.

  1. Inside

  1. DNA

A more energized Earl here, who often seems reluctant to really go in hard on a beat. Shame that other rapper came on and ruined the song.

  1. Wool

I wish Vince was featured a little more here, as his spots on Doris really made the album. Earl sounds inspired by Vince's opening verse and delivers one of his own better spots on the album.

Overall – seems like Earl figured out his strength was his rapping mostly meaningless agitated stuff over hard beats and made a whole album of it. Unlike Doris, it's an engaging listen from start to finish. Doris had better individual tracks and production, but felt like a weird disparate collection of music. This feels like an album and Earl seem more enthusiastic as a rapper on this thing too. I get the feeling Earl enjoyed making this album more than he did Doris, the pressure to 'come back' was off. Even his voice sounds lighter and less monotone and downbeat than it did all over Doris. It's like he really did get back to his younger more passionate self.

I give this 8/10

I read maybe 75% of this before realizing you probably listened to the album one time and wrote down whatever garbage came to mind... cause you literally couldn't have interpreted this album more incorrectly.

Earl delayed this for months and it was well worth the wait. The grief stricken lyrical content really worked well with the dark gritty all over the place production. The album has a darker feel than Doris and to me that is Earl at his best. I also liked the album length too and limited features from other OF members(which makes total sense when you look at the bigger picture).

Fav tracks are Off Top, Mantra, Wool, Inside & Wool.
Least fav are DNA and Grief

Wow I may even go as far as to say Earl is my favorite producer in the game right now, easily debatable but I just love his style of beats. I thought hearing the live versions b4 would ruin my first listen, bit it was still goddamn amazing. Lol for some reason faucet made me so emotional I felt like crying. Faucet was my fav song tho. The first three songs just flowed together so well with the transitions and mood I thought it was great. Overall a 9/10 for me. Right up there with the EARL tape.
